Professor Erico Monteiro began his martial arts journey over 40 years ago when he began training judo at the age of 4. Later in his childhood, he studied striking arts including karate, kung fu, and kickboxing. His Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 1993 after he discovered Royce Gracie and the creation of UFC; he began his training in 1994.

Following a brief hiatus to attend law school, Prof. Erico became one of the first students at Ralph Gracie Berkeley when it opened in 2005. In 2009, he became the Head Instructor at the first UFC Gym and promoted Jiu-Jitsu to a large membership base. Over the years, Prof. Erico was influenced by notable figures including Crosley Gracie, Rodrigo Gracie, Royce Gracie, Alexander Crispim De Almeida, and Mauricio "Tinguinha" Mariano, who became a mentor to him.

As a dedicated martial artist, athlete, teacher, and mentor, Prof. Erico's goal is to provide a highly technical, positive, and safety-focused training experience, focusing on physical health and longevity. His aim is to lead students to better performance through clear communication and a supportive environment.
