Jose Rivera is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt at 925 Jiu Jitsu, Gracie Survival Tactics Level One Instructor, and law enforcement officer with over 26 years of real-world experience. He began his Jiu-Jitsu journey in 1996 after watching Royce Gracie compete in the early UFC events, which sparked his interest in grappling and self-defense.
In his early years, Jose trained in garages and learned through VHS instructional tapes, building his foundation through persistence and a strong work ethic. He began his formal training in 2010 under Professor Alexander Crispim De Almeida, who awarded him his blue belt. During this time, he was introduced to then brown belt Erico Monteiro. Under Professor Monteiro’s tutelage, Jose earned his purple, brown, and ultimately his black belt.
Throughout his law enforcement career, Jose has relied on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to remain calm, composed, and clear-minded during high-stress situations. His training has reinforced the importance of control, decision-making, and professionalism under pressure.
His approach to Jiu-Jitsu focuses on building confidence, discipline, and composure. He believes every student progresses at their own pace and strives to create an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and capable both on and off the mat.
As part of the Six Blades family, Jose is proud to mentor others and share how Jiu-Jitsu can positively impact everyday life, from self-defense to personal growth. He is committed to bridging the gap between Jiu-Jitsu and real-world application, helping others build the confidence and control needed to navigate life’s challenges.
