KAWIKA WATTS

Black Belt

Training Since: 2015

Promoted to Black Belt: 2024

Kawika Watts began training Jiu-Jitsu as a white belt under the instruction of Erico Monteiro in 2015. He specializes in working with students on the details of their movements and explaining the reasons for the details. He does this by translating and drawing parallels to real-life situations.

He enjoys focusing on setting up defenses and countering attacks in self-defense. Focusing on the fundamentals and building a solid foundation for novice students is what he excels at. His philosophy is that mastering the fundamentals will take you further than knowing all the fancy techniques.

Kawika is a former D1 football player and currently coaches football and track when not teaching high school students. His profession and activities always have him in a position to teach, coach, and mentor others by simplifying complex concepts and movement into bite-size pieces that can be understood with any learning style.

Competition Highlight:

  • 1st Place - BJJ Tour American Cup

  • 3rd Place - Jiu Jitsu World League Pacific Cup 2018
