One of the most common questions we get from new students: "How do I tie a Jiu-Jitsu belt?"

If you've ever watched a new student (or even parent) try to tie the belt, you know it's not as easy as it seems. Perhaps you even remember your first time trying to tie your belt.

That's why we created an easy-to-follow tutorial demonstrating two common ways to tie your belt.

Why Learning To Tie Your Jiu-Jitsu Belt Matters

In Jiu-Jitsu, your belt represents your progress, time on the mat, and commitment to improving.

Beyond the symbolism, there are practical reasons for tying your belt properly:

  • Keeps your Gi secure while rolling

  • Reduces constant re-tying during class

  • Builds independence and confidence (especially for kids!)

  • Demonstrates attention to detail and respect for training

Having a properly tied belt allows you to focus on your training -- not fixing your belt every 5 minutes.
