Over the weekend, our athletes stepped onto the mats at BJJ Tour All Star Tournament 2025, ready to put their skills to the test and showcase their progress. Each match was a testament to their hard work, resilience, and hours spent improving their techniques.

Here's a breakdown of our competitors' matches:

Rising to the Challenge at BJJ Tour All Star 2025

Kol Mirakaj was faced with a single opponent in his bracket and pulled out 2 wins in a best 2 out of 3, finishing his matches 2-0 and 8-0, which secured another gold medal for him.

Ryder Grassi made an impressive statement this tournament, finishing his first round by points and his second match by clock choke in 30 seconds. He brought home another gold medal for his performance.

Thomas Mirakaj took to his second competition in the grey belt devision and finished his first round with an arm bar submission. In his second match, his opponent caught him in a triangle choke, and he brought home a bronze medal.

Evangeline Bradford participated in her first-ever Jiu-Jitsu tournament as a white belt and demonstrated remarkable athleticism and perseverance. She submitted her first round opponent with an arm bar, and her second round opponent finished the round with more points, which earned Evangeline a bronze medal.

Bradley Miller faced one of his most challenging competitions this weekend, and his performance was a display of the hard work he put into his training leading up to the tournament. He competed in 3 rounds, which ended in wins by points (12-8), an Americana, and by points (14-0), and brought home the gold!

Jace Hateley demonstrated incredible composure during his matches in the Gi and No-Gi divisions. He faced a formidable, technical opponent in his first Gi round, and his opponent won by points, which secured a bronze medal for Jace. His No-Gi bracket had one other competitor, who is a well-known, strong opponent. He came out ahead in best 2 out of 3, and won by points (6-0 and 4-0) to secure a gold medal.

Emma Munkhjin dominated her matches in her second-ever Jiu-Jitsu tournament. She submitted her first two opponents by arm bar and finished her third match with a stunning score of 16-0. Her dedication in her training brought a well-deserved gold medal home!

Leo Munkhjin demonstrated great resilience in the face of an opponent who matched his strength and technicality. He battled his way through and his opponent ultimately won on points, which secured a bronze medal for Leo.

Sarah Lahommedieu faced the most packed bracket of all our competitors! Her first two matches were well-won, each ending in a submission. In her final match, she a more technical opponent, and ended up bringing home a silver medal.

Jax Hateley was our youngest competitor in the tournament and competed in both Gi and No-Gi divisions. He faced a single opponent in his Gi bracket, and secured a silver medal with his performance. His solo opponent for his No-Gi bracket was a no-show, which resulted in a gold medal for him.

Rob Hansen competed in his first Jiu-Jitsu tournament and put his hard-work and preparation to the test. With a single opponent in his bracket, the two faced one another in a best 2 out of 3. His opponent won the first round with a guillotine choke. In the second round, Rob submitted his opponent with an Americana lock. The final round resulted in his opponent catching him in an arm bar, which earned Rob a silver medal.

Uncontested and Undeterred

Jiu-Jitsu tournaments can sometimes be unpredictable, and a couple of our athletes experienced the disappointment of having their only opponent no-show, leaving them without a match while still earning a gold medal. While not being able to put their hard work to the test, they came prepared and supported their teammates throughout the day.

Sicily Rangel trained diligently for her debut tournament. She was awarded gold as her opponent was a no-show, and she was allowed exhibition matches against other competitors whose opponents were a no-show. These matches were against much higher ranking competitors, and she graciously took these as opportunities to understand what it's like to roll with students from other academies, helping her prepare for future tournaments.

Jade Hateley spent weeks preparing for this tournament and was ready to compete in both Gi and No-Gi divisions, though she found herself without an opponent. While she still received double gold in light of the setback, she took the opportunity to analyze matches, support her teammates from the sidelines, and set her sights on her next competition.

Reflecting on the Weekend

This tournament was a milestone for our academy. We had a total of 12 youth competitors and 1 adult competitor taking to the mats. With a total kids medal count of 9 gold, 2 silver, and 4 bronze (with the addition of 1 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medal from our sister academy in Oakland), the Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu team came in 4th place in the kids division! Including a silver medal from the Adults division, the whole team placed 5th overall out of 95 total academies!

With the 2025 competition season underway, our students have set a strong foundation for what is to come this year, and we are so proud of them! We look forward to watching them grow, witnessing the extra investment they will put into their training to keep improving themselves and overcoming challenges on their journey. The success of our students comes as a result of the combination of our coaching team and the support of our Six Blades family. We want to express a huge thank you to all of the family and friends who showed up along the way to support all of our competitors.

Stay tuned for updates on upcoming tournaments this year. Onward and upward to the next challenge for the Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu team!
