This past weekend, seven of our Kids Program competitors kicked off the 2026 competition season by stepping onto the mat at their first tournament of the year. Each athlete came prepared to test their skills that they sharpened during their hours of diligent training. Together, they represented the academy well by showcasing the progress that they have built up. Here's a breakdown of how their matches went:

Welcoming The Season At BJJ Tour East Bay 2026

Orion Homsi returned to the BJJ Tour mats for his second tournament and faced two competitors in a revolution round robin bracket. His first match was lost by submission. After the winner of the bracket was determined with the second match, he competed for second place and secured the silver medal with a submission.

Lily Enkhbold demonstrated how consistency and hard work can make a well-prepared competitor. After many hours of training and supplemental practice, she secured another gold medal for winning her first match by points (5-0) and her second match by submission.

Janay Blair made her tournament debut at BJJ Tour East Bay 2026 and was ready to showcase all the hard work that she put into her training. She lit up the mat and won her first match by points (7-0) and second match by submission, which secured a gold medal win.

Matthew Palma demonstrated impressive command in his bracket against one other opponent. His opponent remained scoreless against him while he scored 9 points in his first match and 13 points in his second match. Both matches ended by submission and he took home a well-earned gold medal.

Ronin Homsi participated in his second Jiu-Jitsu tournament and faced a single opponent in a best of three bracket. He dominated his first match by scoring 11 points and ending the match with a submission. After his opponent countered with a win in the second match by points, they went toe-to-toe in the final match, where Ronin came out ahead by points and won a gold medal.

Tommy Palma competed in a single-elimination - bronze match bracket against 3 other competitors. In the semi-finals, he bested his opponent by points (12-2). He faced a formidable opponent in the finals, who ultimately won by points (0-2) at the end of the 3-minute round. He secured a silver medal for his performance.

Fox Dyer returned for his second Jiu-Jitsu tournament and entered a bracket with 2 other competitors. Since one competitor was a no-show, he faced his other competitor in a single match and won the final matchup by submission, earning his first gold medal.

Tournament Recap

The first tournament of the year serves as a significant checkpoint for all competitors. They can measure the progress that they make throughout the year against how they performed at the first tournament and reflect on the lessons and experiences gained.

Our team kicked off the new year by bringing home 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals, We're immensely proud of how these students have set the stage for an incredible year of learning. We've seen how each of them has grown since their respective Day 1 on the mats, and we cannot wait to see how much more they continue to grow in the year ahead. As always, we want to express our deepest thanks to the support of the families that make up our Six Blades family!
